Family Therapy
Resolve conflicts and improve relationships by understanding the roots of tension.
My Approach to Family Therapy
Family dynamics can be complex, but with the right guidance, they can also be incredibly rewarding. My goal is to create a safe environment where each family member feels heard and valued. Together, we will navigate through the challenges that may be holding you back from experiencing the joy of a harmonious family life. I believe that every family has the potential for growth and healing, and I am here to support you on that journey.
When families start working together, we can shine light on the deeper concerns and emotions underneath the surface-level issues we get stuck on. I have experience supporting many families in a variety of complicated dynamics. But no matter how difficult the challenge, I’ve found that when everyone is willing to show up and put the legwork in to build a foundation of trust, the family can come out of the process stronger than ever. Every step you take towards healing is a step towards a brighter future.
In most cases our first meeting will be more of an interview than normal: we will co-investigate your goals, relational needs, and sense of what or where the problem is. We may brainstorm some immediate solutions by focussing on areas of agreement rather than disagreement. After the initial session I will also usually meet with each person individually for 30- or 50- minutes to better understand important context and individual desires. We will reconvene for a second joint meeting with everyone and start addressing key concerns.
If one of us decides after the first meeting (or at any point in the future!) that we are not the right fit for each other, I will be happy to provide you with a list of trusted referrals.
From my past experience it typically takes around six to eight sessions for families to achieve significant and long-lasting results. Of course, I hope you will see practical results much sooner, and it is my goal to work collaboratively with you as we discover which approaches are most helpful for you.
